How to Remove Buffering From a Video

Those who enjoy viewing streaming video on the Internet may run into buffering issues in the process of viewing their favorite video clips. Buffering occurs when not enough information is available for the video to play smoothly, resulting in choppy, constantly halting video that can ruin the viewing experience for some. There are many ways to prevent buffering from interfering with your video viewing experience.

  • Start the video and then stop it and let the video load at least half way. This process may take some time, depending on the length of the video and the speed of your Internet connection.

  • Pause or stop downloads occurring in the background. These downloads can eat away needed bandwidth, causing the video to become choppy. Make sure all file sharing programs are paused or turned off while watching the video.

  • Disable hardware acceleration on flash videos. Hardware acceleration can cause the video on some machines to buffer excessively. Right-click the video screen and select "Options." Remove the check mark next to "Enable Hardware Acceleration" and click "Close."

  • Consider upgrading your Internet connection. Your current connection may not be fast enough to provide streaming video without constantly buffering. Contact your ISP for more information on upgrading your Internet connection.
