How to Install a Second RAM Chip
Random access memory, sometimes referred to as "hardware memory," is installed on little removable cards inside the computer. A computer system relies on RAM for fast operating storage when it is powered on. Generally, the more RAM a computer system has, the faster it operates. You can install a second RAM chip into the computer to increase the general operational performance of the system and extend its useful life.

Power off the computer.

Remove the side cover of the computer case. Some cases use screws while others use a lever on the back of the case.

Gently insert the second RAM stick into an open RAM slot. The memory is notched so it can only be installed in a single direction. The plastic memory retention clips snap when the memory is installed properly. Never force a stick of RAM into the slot.

Replace the side cover of the computer case.

Power on the computer. The second stick of RAM is recognized and configured automatically.
