How to Print Black & White in Adobe Reader

Save

Portable Document Format files are created from printable source material using a PDF writing program. These files may then be opened and viewed by anyone utilizing a PDF reading program, such as the popular Adobe Acrobat, thereby eliminating the need for the source program. Because of the wide variety of programs from which PDF files are created, many will be color files. If you have a color PDF and want to print in black and white to save color toner, you may do so in Adobe Reader by following a few steps.

  • Launch Adobe Reader and open the PDF file that you want to print in black and white. Note that the following process will work with Adobe Reader, as well as all three Adobe Acrobat programs: Standard, Pro and Suite.

  • Click the "File" drop-down menu and select the "Print" option. This action will open the Print dialogue window.

  • Click the "Print color as black" box. This action will turn all color items in the document to black when printing. Click the "OK" button to print the PDF file in black and white.
