How to Send a DVD in the Mail

How to Send a DVD in the Mail thumbnail
Keep DVDs safe while sending them via mail.

Sending a DVD to somebody via standard mail is not as simple as placing the disc inside of an envelope as you would a card or letter. Calculating the necessary postage when sending the DVD is key to prevent it being sent back to you due to insufficient postage. Protecting the DVD from scratches, cracks or other damage is also important, especially for individuals selling discs to customers or trading discs with fellow fans.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the DVD inside either its original case or in a generic DVD case. Using a case is recommended to prevent scratches and other damage, regardless of the mailing packaging used.

    • 2

Put the case in a protected or "bubble" mailer. Such an envelope adds extra protection to the case and the enclosed DVD.

    • 3

Weigh the entire package. Always round up to the nearest whole number to ensure the DVD gets to its destination. For example, round up to 7 ounces if the package weighs 6.4 ounces.

    • 4

Calculate the postage. The USPS website offers a postage calculator.

    • 5

Place the appropriate postage and the necessary information, such as the "Send To" address and a return address, on the front of the package.

    • 6

Seal the envelope securely. Use clear tape to completely close the flap, if necessary.
