1
Decide on the type of position in education that you would like to find employment. You can find job descriptions of positions ranging from high school science teacher to guidance counselor to principal from K-12. There are also many positions available in community college settings as well as four-year universities and graduate schools.

2
Determine the educational requirements for the position you are interested in seeking. There are a number of sites, such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which will offer you valuable information on education positions. This includes salary rage, employment outlook and educational requirements needed to qualify for each specific job title. For example, you may want to be a teacher's assistant that will only require a high school diploma or GED, while to become a teacher, you normally need to obtain a four-year degree.

3
Seek credentials that you will need to obtain to get hired for the type of education job you have decided to pursue. For example, if you want to teach in the public school system and already have a BA or BS in another field, you will likely need to take additional coursework to satisfy the state's requirements for teaching in that grade level and subject area so you can be certified.
-
4
Consult with universities that offer specific programs in education to determine what classes you will need to meet the requirements to teach in the area you interested in. You can also check with the accrediting body in your state to confirm these requirements. You may, for example, determine that you wish to pursue a lateral entry path into teaching, which would allow you to teach while studying. The accrediting body should be able to direct you to where you can download a package that describes this option as well as provide the necessary forms you will need to fill out and submit.
