Instructions

    • 1

Use a flexible measuring tape to measure the height for the leg warmers on your leg, from your ankle to just below your knee; call this measurement A. Measure the width around your leg, just below the knee; call this measurement B.

    • 2

Make several chain stitches using worsted weight yarn and a crochet hook in size US I. Keep making chains until your foundation chain reaches the same size as measurement A; add two more chain stitches for the seam allowance.

    • 3

Make a half double crochet stitch in the second chain from the hook and in each subsequent chain across. To do this, yarn over, insert your hook in the stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, then yarn over and draw through all loops on the hook.

    • 4

Chain one and turn your work; make a half double crochet in the back loops only of every stitch across. To do this, put your hook down through the center of the "V" shape in the top of each stitch instead of going underneath both sides of the V.

    • 5

Chain one and turn; half double crochet through both loops of every stitch in the row. Repeat steps four and five until the piece measures the width of measurement B, then add one more row.

    • 6

Make a slip stitch to finish off your work and cut your working yarn with scissors, leaving a long tail. Fold your leg warmer in half lengthwise and use your embroidery needle to stitch down the long seam and sew together the two sides. Turn the leg warmer right side out and slide it up over your foot onto your leg to test the fit. Make a second leg warmer just like it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Using back loop only stitches gives your leg warmer fabric some stretch, so it fits comfortably on the narrow parts of your leg but also stretches to accommodate any wider parts.

  • If you can't get the leg warmer over your foot, pick out the last 2 inches of stitches you made in the seam and leave them unsewn. Wear the leg warmer with these stitches over your heel.
