How to Make a Paper Doorknob Sign
A doorknob sign can communicate a fun message or a serious one, depending on the purpose of your sign. Make a paper doorknob sign out of sturdy card stock and some art supplies. With markers, paint, sequins and foam shapes, a doorknob sign will hang smartly from the doorknob to communicate your message. Personalize the doorknob sign with a photo or picture you print from the computer to create an attractive doorknob sign.

1
Measure a 3-inch by 8-inch rectangle onto the card stock with the ruler and draw it with the pencil. Cut the rectangle out with the scissors.

2
Draw a 1 1/2-inch diameter circle at one short edge of the rectangle, positioning the circle about 1/2 inch away from the short edge and centering it between the two long edges. This circle will go around the doorknob.

Cut out the circle with the scissors and make a straight cut to the circle from the short edge of the rectangle to enable you to fit the door hanger around the doorknob.

Decorate the doorknob sign however you desire. Write a message like "Gone Fishing" or "Keep Out" beneath the cutout circle. Personalize the sign by writing someone's name down the center of the rectangle. Print out a personal photo or cut out graphics from magazines and glue the items onto the card stock. Draw pictures with markers or paint designs with watercolor paints. Glue sequins or foam shapes to the doorknob sign.

Tips & Warnings
Consider laminating the doorknob sign to make it more durable. If you do not have a home laminating machine, take the finished doorknob sign to an office supply store or copy shop to have the sign laminated.
Use colored card stock to make a bold doorknob sign. You can then paint over the colored paper or use brightly colored markers to decorate the sign.
