How to Play 1080p on a Macbook Pro
The recent surge of online media content has driven increased interest in Home Theater PCs (HTPCs). A laptop is often used as an HTPC to view videos, photos and other media on a large screen. Apple's MacBook Pro has the ability produce video at high resolutions (including 1080p) for large format viewing. You will need some additional hardware and to make some minimal software configurations to provide beautiful HD video for your TV or projector.
Things You'll Need
- MacBook Pro
- Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6)
- Display Port to DVI adapter (depends on your MacBook Pro Model)
- DVI cable

DVI Port Configuration Insert the display port to DVI adapter into the display port of your MacBook Pro with the computer turned off.

Connect the DVI cable from the TV/Projector to the DVI adapter.

Turn on the TV/Projector and MacBook Pro.

TV Remote Select DVI input from the TV/Projector menu. This can often be found by pressing the "Input" button on the remote control.

Open System Preferences on the MacBook Pro. This is found in the "Applications" folder.

Select "Displays" from the System Preferences menu.

Choose 1080p from the "Resolutions" pane of the Displays sub-menu.

Tips & Warnings
You can also use a display port to VGA adapter if your TV/Projector has a PC/VGA port.
Make sure you buy the correct display port adapter for your MacBook. If you are not sure which one you need, ask a store representative.
