DIY Garden Waterfalls
A garden waterfall is a great way to enhance the appeal and serenity of a vegetable garden, flower garden or even a rock garden. If you use your garden as an escape for relaxation, adding the sound of flowing water will surely help to soothe your nerves. To build a waterfall in your garden, you do not have to excavate ground, deal with large rocks and worry about plumbing complicated pumps and water pipes. You can build a simple, yet stunning waterfall fountain out of a large clay pot, prefabricated pool pump and bamboo stalks. Does this Spark an idea?

- 2-inch diameter bamboo
- Twine

Select a large terra-cotta pot or other large container that will fit in your garden and look nice. Place the pot in the garden where you plan to use it.

Place two pieces of 1-inch diameter bamboo across the top of the pot. Place a mark on each end of the bamboo stalks at a point that creates at least 2 inches of overhang on each end of the pot. Cut the bamboo stalks to length with a flat saw. Sand the rough edges with sandpaper.

Measure the height of your pot with a tape measure. Double the measurement and then subtract 2 inches from the total. Cut a piece of 2-inch diameter bamboo to that length. Sand the rough edges with sandpaper.

Place the 2-inch diameter bamboo into the pot so it sticks up from the center of the pot vertically. Place the two pieces of 1-inch diameter bamboo across the center of the pot. Position the 2-inch diameter bamboo between the two pieces of 1-inch diameter bamboo.

Lift the 2-inch diameter bamboo up 2 inches from the bottom of the pot, and then tie all three pieces together with twine. The two pieces of 1-inch diameter bamboo act as supports for the vertical piece of bamboo.

Measure down from the top of the bamboo 2 inches and place a mark.

Drill though one side of the bamboo with a 1-inch diameter drill bit.

Measure the width of the pot and divide that number by four. Cut a piece of 1-inch diameter bamboo to that measurement. Cut one end of the bamboo at a 90 degree angle, and then cut the other end at a 45 degree angle.

Slide the 90 degree angle of the bamboo into the 1-inch diameter hole, and position the bamboo so the longer edge of the 45 degree angle makes up the bottom edge of the spout. Make sure you have room inside the 2-inch diameter bamboo stalk to fit the pump tubing into the spout.

Secure the spout to the bamboo by applying a ring of construction adhesive around the 1-inch diameter bamboo on the inside of the 2-inch diameter bamboo stalk.

Feed the tubing up through the 2-inch diameter bamboo stalk, and place the tip of the hose into the spout. Do not slide the tube so far into the spout that you can see the tube from the outside.

Place the pump into the bottom of the pot, and connect the other end of the tubing to the pump.

Fill the pot halfway with water.

Plug the pump into an electrical outlet. Likely, you must use an outdoor-safe extension cord. When you plug the pump in, the water will flow up through the bamboo and fall out of the spout, creating a beautiful waterfall in your garden.
