The most direct way to record content from your computer to a DVD disc is to use screen capture software to record the material. Then use CD burning software to transfer the file of the recording to a DVD disc. To do this, however, you must have a computer equipped with a CD burner. If your computer is not equipped with a CD burner, but you own a DVD recorder, you can connect the DVD recorder to your computer using a device called a PC to TV converter. This too will allow you to record video from your computer to a DVD.
- PC to TV converter
- Composite video cable
- 3.5 mm Stereo to RCA Y cable
- VGA cable (1 to 2 cables)
- Blank DVD-R disc
Connect Computer to DVD Recorder
Follow the instructions outlined in your DVD recorder's manual to hook up the device to a TV monitor.
Connect one end of a VGA cable to the VGA port on your computer. Connect the other end of this cable to the VGA input port on the PC to TV converter.
Use a second VGA cable to connect the VGA output port on the PC to TV converter to the VGA input port on the computer monitor. (This step is only necessary if you are using a desktop computer.)
Plug one end of the composite video cable into the yellow AV output jack on the PC to TV converter. Plug the other end of this cable into the yellow AV input jack, labeled "Video," on the back of the DVD recorder.
Insert the stereo plug end of the stereo to RCA cable into the computer's headphone jack. Plug the white RCA plug, located on the other end of the cable, into the DVD recorder's white AV input jack. This jack is typically labeled "L" or "Left." Plug the red RCA plug into the DVD recorder's red AV input jack. This jack is typically labeled "R" or "Right."
Connect the PC to TV converter to a power source and turn the device on.
Turn on the DVD recorder and TV.
Use the "Input" button on the DVD recorder's remote control to set the device's video input channel to the AV source. (This step is only necessary if you're using a DVD recorder equipped with multiple input options.)
Record from Computer to DVD Recorder
Load the DVD-R disc into the DVD recorder.
Prepare the content on the computer that you would like to record to DVD disc. For example, if you want to record a video streaming from the Internet onto DVD disc, open the computer's Web browser and navigate to the Web page which has the video stream you want to capture.
Press "Record" on your DVD recorder when you are ready to start recording. Press "Stop" when you're ready to end the recording.
Open the DVD recorder's main or settings menu. Locate and select the option to "Finalize" the disc.
