How to Rotate the Laptop Screen on a Dell

Dell computers that include certain Intel Extreme Graphics video chip sets also include a fun feature that enables users to rotate the video display image as a 3-D object on the screen. If your Dell computer supports one of the Intel Extreme Graphics video chip sets with the display rotation feature, you can experiment with this option by pressing specific key combinations on the keyboard.

Things You'll Need

  • Dell computer with an Intel Extreme Graphics 845GE, 845GV, 845G, 845GL chip set or Intel Extreme Graphics 2 865G, 865GV, 855GM chip set
  • Press the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "F1" keys at the same time to enable display image rotation.

  • Rotate the display to the right by pressing the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Right arrow" keys at the same time.

  • Rotate the display to the left by pressing the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Left arrow" keys at the same time.

  • Rotate the display image in a downward direction by pressing the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Down arrow" keys simultaneously.

  • Rotate the display image in an upward direction by pressing the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Up arrow" keys simultaneously.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can identify the video chip set in your computer by clicking the "Start" button, typing "dxdiag" in the "Search" box and pressing the "Enter" key. Click the "Display" tab in the window that appears to view the model of video chip set installed. Note that more than one "Display" tab may be listed.
