How to Design a Diamond Wedding Set With Gemstones
Designing wedding rings and ring sets is usually left to the professionals. However, if you want rings that have a personal touch or if you want a style that you cannot find already made, you can design the ring set yourself or with the assistance of a professional ring designer. A wedding ring set is typically made up of a pair of rings, namely, the engagement and the wedding bands, which are the same style and fit together on the finger. Occasionally, the set can include a third ring, either a promise, anniversary or family ring to complete the set. Does this Spark an idea?

Research ring styles you like. Look for inspiration in jewelry stores, bridal magazines or online. If you are not artistic, you will need to provide examples or give a good description to the ring designer, so he will have some guidelines. If you are artistic, looking at examples will give you ideas of what you want the finished ring to look like.

2
Sketch the rough outline of the bands. Not all bands have to be completely spherical; you can create twists, bends and knots, as long as the band is thick enough to support the shape and the gem setting.

Mark on the sketches where you would like the diamond and gems to be positioned on the rings. Typically, the large diamond is positioned in the center of the engagement ring with smaller gems and diamonds beside the large stone along the band. Other options include: positioning all of the stones on one of the bands and leaving the other blank; or having just the diamond on the engagement ring and the other gems along the wedding band.

Label all of the elements on the sketches. Circle elements with a different colored pencil and draw a straight line out from the sketch to the blank area on the paper and write in detail what each element is. Hence, if you work with a ring designer, he will know how to execute each element of your design, and he will know which gems, as well as gem cuts, setting types and materials, to use. Even if you are not working with someone else, making notes will keep you on track so that you do not forget anything about the design.
