How to Hotwire a Golfcart

Hotwire a golf cart to make it start without a key.

Golf carts are battery-powered vehicles. They are small vehicles that usually carry only a couple of people and some equipment. Most golf carts need a key in order to start. If you have lost your key, you will usually not be able to start the cart. However, with a simple and straightforward procedure, you can hotwire the golf cart to start it up.

Things You'll Need

• Rubber non-conductive gloves
• Wire cutters
• Electricians tape

Instructions

1. Turn on the power switch.

2. Find the two wires leading to the ignition switch.

   Remove a cover panel if necessary.

3. Put on the gloves.

4. Cut the two wires free with the cutters.

5. Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from each wire with the cutters.

6. Twist the ends of wire together. The engine will start when they touch.

7. Wrap the wires with electrician's tape.

Tips & Warnings

• Never hotwire a golf cart that is someone else's property -- it is illegal. Do not steal a golf cart, which is a serious crime.
