DIY Brush Holder

Paintbrush holders come in handy for a variety of projects.

Painters use brush holders to organize their brushes while painting. Painters will often need several brushes when painting pictures with multiple colors. Holders help keep the mess to a minimum. Brushes can be placed in holders to dry after they are cleaned. Brush holders are similar to pencil holders. They hold the brushes vertically by the ends of their handles in a hole that is slightly bigger than the handle.

Things You'll Need

• Tape measure
• Pencil with eraser
• Straightedge
• Oak board, 2 inches by 2 inches by 8 inches
• Drill
• Drill bit, 3/8 inch
• Sandpaper, medium grade and fine grade
• Tack cloth
• Wood stain

Instructions

1. Draw a line down the center of the board so it is 1 inch away from each edge. Draw 10 lines perpendicularly across the first so they are spaced ¾ inches apart. The two outside lines should be 1/3 inch away from the ends of the board.

2. Drill a 1 ¾-inch deep, 3/8-inch hole where each of the lines intersect. These holes will hold your paint brushes. Erase the remaining pencil marks.

3. Sand down the brush holder with the medium-grade and then fine-grade sandpaper. Wipe the brush holder clean with the tack cloth and apply the wood stain. Let the stain dry before using the holder.

4. Insert the handles of your paintbrushes into the holes. Wipe off any wet paint before it dries to keep your brush holder clean.
