Mounting Directions for Navy Medals
U.S. Navy medals are worn on service member's full dress whites uniform to recognize service and personal accomplishments. The colorful medals are worn outwardly to display highlights of the sailor's career. Both enlisted and officer members of the Navy are awarded medals, which can help them advance in rank. 1
Check your records to find out what medals you have been awarded. Veterans can find this information on their DD Form 214 in Block 13.
-
2
Purchase each medal and a rack at a base uniform store or online through a military-approved vendor. Don't forget to buy award stars, which are small gold and silver stars that are pinned on the fabric section of the medal to signify a multiple-awarded medal.
-
-
3
Pin the award stars on any medals that qualify.
-
4
Reference the U.S. Navy Uniform Regulation guide's chapter seven to determine the order and precedence of your medals.
-
5
Mount each medal on the rack starting with the lowest medal first and work your way up to the top medal that you have earned.
-
6
Remove any lint and smooth out wrinkles from the medals to assure that the medals are perfectly situated on the rack.
-
7
Attach the medal tack to your uniform using a ruler to precisely place the rack on your jacket. The U.S. Navy Uniform Regulation gives exact measurements of the placement of the rack, along with photos for easy reference.
