The flapper look from the 1920s has made a comeback in the form of Halloween costumes and theme party outfits. Dresses are available at specialty stores, costume shops and vintage clothing retailers, but why not make your own customized accessories? Headbands were hot in the '20s, and were often embellished with rhinestones, feathers or sequins. Have fun and create your own headpiece with a glue gun and a few supplies.
Things You'll Need
- Measuring tape
- Glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Large feather
- Hook and loop fastener
Turn on the glue gun and allow it to come to temperature.
Measure the length of your head, directly around your forehead. Add 2 inches to the total.
Cut a strip of felt 2 inches wide and the length determined in Step 2.
Cut the hook and loop fastener into a 2-inch square. Apply a dime-sized dollop of hot glue to the back of each side of the hook and loop fastener and press each side onto one of the ends of the felt headband to create a closure. Allow the glue to dry before moving on.
Apply another small strip of glue to the back of the base of the feather and adhere the feather to the front or side of the headband. Cover the base of the feather with another dollop of glue and a large rhinestone.
Distribute small dots of glue to the front or side of the headband and add more rhinestones or sequins. Get as fancy as you like, or keep it simple. Allow the glue to dry fully before wearing the headband.
