How to Cool Buffet Food With Ice Packs & Marbles

Whether you want to plan a small buffet dinner for family and friends or an office, you can chill perishable foods for hours of enjoyment. Ice packs and marbles are available at local party stores, large retailers and online vendors. Choose from numerous sizes and colors and use only as directed by the manufacturer.

  • Freeze the ice packs and marbles before you use them. Some varieties can be used hot, cold or frozen, so read the manufacturer's instructions carefully.

  • Place frozen ice packs under garnishes and condiments. Ice packs provide hours of freezing temperatures. Some varieties provide temperatures more than twice as cold as dry ice. One 9-by-13 inch ice pack is sufficient for a similarly sized container or serving tray.

  • Add frozen marbles to large serving trays and centerpiece bowls. Chill food items like ice cream and yogurt, jellied dishes and cold pastas on top.

  • Keep extra foods in coolers. Add ice packs to lower temperatures. Bottled and canned beverages as well as prepacked foods and sealed foods work best. Store the coolers beneath the buffet table for easy option.

  • Wash your ice packs and marbles after you use them. Follow the manufacturer's instructions. Ice Packs may not be dishwasher-safe. Wash by hand in warm, soapy water unless otherwise directed.
