How to Make Quick Pumpkin Puree

Homemade pumpkin puree is actually very easy to make. A 4-lb. pumpkin will yield about 4 cups of puree.

  • 1 4-lb. pumpkins

  1. Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. Step 2

    Peel, seed and cut the pumpkin into 2-inch chunks.

  3. Step 3

    Put the pumpkin in a 5-quart casserole, add 1/4 inch water, cover with aluminum foil and bake until tender, about 20 minutes.

  4. Step 4

    Remove pumpkin from oven and pour off any water and excess moisture.

  5. Step 5

    Puree the pumpkin in a food processor fitted with a metal chopping blade.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use Sugar Pie or another type of "pie pumpkin" for your puree, not jack o'lantern pumpkins. (Jack o'lantern pumpkins are tough and stringy.)
