How to Update an Address With the BBB

Businesses that are accredited by the Better Business Bureau enjoy multiple advantages. Consumers recognize the BBB logo on store windows and websites and assume a degree of trust in doing business with the company. Business owners can take advantage of a multitude of services, including having a BBB-hosted website and mediation services to resolve disputes. Notify the BBB when your address changes. This not only means changes to a physical address, but for email and website addresses as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the Better Business Bureau website at www.bbb.org, or the website address for the BBB office in your location. Click on the orange-colored tab in the upper right-hand corner to log in and access your account information.

    • 2

Enter your login information. Follow instructions to update your account information. Enter your new address information and submit to the BBB.

    • 3

Review all addresses listed for your account, including your physical address, your email address and your website address. Update each address that you need to change.

    • 4

Check other listings you might have on the BBB website, such as a listing on the accredited businesses page. Look for the category for your business listing, such as accountants, financial services or health general services. Find your business listing and check the physical, email and website addresses. Make notes on a piece of paper or on a computer document with the current address as listed and the address changes needed.

    • 5

Go to the "Contact" tab on the home page for your local BBB. Write down the names of BBB employees for related departments that you need to contact, such as advertising and marketing, accredited business or member services and for general information. Get individual names, email addresses, telephone numbers -- if provided -- and the general telephone number for your local BBB.

    • 6

Use the BBB online email system to send a message to each person you need to contact regarding address changes and updates that need to be made to your account. Complete all information fields required and send a message about the address changes that need to be made. Ask for a confirmation email that your message was received and when you can expect to see the address changes go "live" on the Internet. Remember to also notify the contact person you are working with on any pending disputes or mediations.

    • 7

Get new BBB window decals -- if you purchased them -- for your new address to replace the old ones, since you will not have an easy time removing the old decals. Contact the advertising and marketing department to order the decals.

    • 8

Call the BBB office and inform them that you made updates to your addresses. Ask them to confirm the turn-around time it will take to process and update the address information. Check online beginning one day after the date you were told. Contact the BBB again by telephone if changes were not updated for one or some of your listings and request to have the updates expedited.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check each page on your BBB-hosted website, if you have one. Look at the bottom of each page to check the address listed and on your "contact" page. Make notes about each page and address change that you need to have made.
