How to Add Live Web Pages in PowerPoint Presentations
PowerPoint may seem like a simple slide show viewer, but it comes equipped with powerful interactive features. PowerPoint developers use the program to animate objects, play video and even link to external items. These external items include documents in other applications and even pages on the Internet. By learning to add hyperlinks to your PowerPoint presentations, you can include useful content from any live Web page that your browser can access.
Instructions
-
Insert Text Link
-
1
Launch PowerPoint. A new, empty presentation appears.
-
2
Click the "New Slide" button, and then click "Title and Content." PowerPoint adds a news slide to the project. The slide contains a title box and a content box below it.
-
-
3
Click the content box, and type the display text -- for example, "Link to White House website" -- to add that text to the slide.
-
4
Highlight that text using your mouse, and then click the "Insert" tab on PowerPoint's ribbon.
-
5
Click the "Hyperlink" button that appears on that tab menu. The "Insert Hyperlink" dialog window opens.
-
6
Type the URL -- in this example, "http://www.whitehouse.gov" (without the quotes) -- in the "Address" text box at the bottom of that window. Click "OK." PowerPoint closes the window and returns to the slide. Note that the text is underlined. This underline lets you know that the text is a hyperlink. In this example, that link points to the White House website.
Insert Image Link
-
7
Click an empty area on the slide, and then click the "Clip Art" button located on the "Insert" tab menu. The "Clip Art" window opens.
-
8
Click "Go." Thumbnails of available clip art images will appear in the window. Double-click one of the images to add it to the slide.
-
9
Click the image to highlight it, and press "Ctrl" and "K." The "Insert Hyperlink" window opens again. Pressing "Ctrl" and "K" is a quick way to open that window without clicking the "Insert" tab.
-
10
Type a URL -- say, "http://www.IRS.gov" (without the quotes) -- in the "Address" text box and click "OK." The window closes and returns you to the slide. The image will not be underlined, but it contains a link to the IRS website.
-
11
Press "F5" to run the presentation. The title slide will appear. Click that slide to advance to the one you created.
-
12
Click the text link. Your browser will open and display the White House website. Click the image. The browser will navigate to the IRS website.

Tips & Warnings
If your text is an actual hyperlink, such as "http://www.xyz.com," you can simply type that text on the slide and press "Enter." PowerPoint will convert it into a hyperlink automatically and underline the text.
Add hyperlinks to other objects such as shapes by selecting them and entering URLs for the objects as described in these steps. To change a PowerPoint hyperlink, right-click the object, and then click "Edit Hyperlink" to open the "Edit Hyperlink" window. That window has a text box that allows you to change the URL. Delete a hyperlink by right-clicking an object and clicking "Delete Hyperlink."
