Preventative maintenance and care of a laptop will enhance its performance and lengthen its life.

  1. Software Updates

      Navigate to your laptop manufacturer's website using your internet-connected laptop.

      Navigate to the drivers and downloads section.

      Key in your laptop's model number to navigate to the software downloads section.

      Download and install all updates to your laptop.

    Hardware Maintenance

      Shut down and turn off your laptop.

      Unplug the AC power adapter.

      Moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with water. It should be only slightly damp, not saturated.

      Wipe the cloth over the laptop screen to remove dust and dirt, paying special attention to the edges and corners where the screen meets the case.

      Wipe the cloth over the keyboard and track pad.

      Run a dry cotton swab around individual keys to remove any visible dust and dirt.

      Close the laptop case.

      Wipe the cloth over the exterior of the case, top and bottom, avoiding the openings and ports.
