How to Convert Pictures From a Word Document Into a JPEG

Word lets you use different picture formats within documents. When you save a Word document as a Web page, Word creates a folder for files you've used within your document, such as clip art and images. The folder is placed in the same location as the saved Web page. Word saves a copy of bitmaps as JPEGs and a copy of WMFs (file format for clip art from Microsoft's Clip Organizer) as GIFs. You can convert any images that don't convert into JPEGs from there.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Word document that contains the pictures you want to convert.

    • 2

Click the Office Button and then "Save As." The Save As dialog box will open. Change the "Save as type" option to "Web Page." Click "Save."

    • 3

Click the Office Button and select "Open." You will be directed to the file you just saved in the Open dialog box.

    • 4

Look for a folder with "_files" extension. The folder's name will be the same as your document's name, but include an "_files" extension. For example, if the original file is named "myimages," the folder will be "myimages_files."

    • 5

      Double-click the folder.

    • 6

Right-click an empty area in the dialog box and select "View" and "Details."

    • 7

Right-click any GIFs that didn't convert completely into the format you need. Select "Open with" and "Paint."

    • 8

Click "File" and "Save As" from the Paint menu. Change the "Save as type" option to "JPEG" in the Save As dialog box. Click "Save."
