How to Send a Text Message About School Cancellations

Many schools text school information, such as cancellations.

It is often easier to send text messages than calling people. Most people have cellphones that are often capable of receiving text messages. For last-minute events, such as school cancellations, a mass text message can inform people faster than phone calls or other announcements. Many school systems now have optional signups where students and parents can receive text messages for emergency school closings. There are databases online that you can use to send mass text messages.

Instructions

1. Determine if you want to send texts to only a few people or to your entire school district. You can send out a few texts directly from your phone. You can do mass texting from your phone but it would be very time-consuming for a large group. Recipients would also be able to see your cellphone number.

2. Develop a sign-up sheet where members of your school district will give out their cellphone number to receive texts for school cancellations.

3. Find a website where you can send mass texts. There are a variety of websites with this option. There are many that are free, but some charge a small monthly fee.

4. Sign up with the website. Create your group, such as School Cancellation Group, and input the numbers. This will save a lot of time on the day of the actual closing.

5. Log on to the website, if you need to send a cancellation text.

6. Compose the text and send to your School Cancellation Group.
