How to Make Snap Bracelets

Snap bracelets were a fun fashion fad during the 1980s and '90s. The snap bracelet, also known as a slap bracelet, gets its name because it starts out flat and then snaps over a person's wrist. The tension in the bracelet causes it to stay on someone's wrist. Making a snap bracelet is a fun way to accessorize an outfit with some retro fashion. Buy enough materials so you can make bracelets to trade with friends.

Instructions

  1. Painted bracelet

    • 1

Cut off the metal end of a measuring tape with scissors. Cut a strip 7 to 9 inches long from the measuring tape.

    • 2

File or sand the ends to soften any sharp edges.

    • 3

Decorate the metal strip by spray painting it, and let the paint dry.

    • 4

Snap the bracelet over your wrist with the hollow side of the metal strip facing your skin.

    Fabric bracelet

    • 5

Cut a strip of fabric twice as wide and one-half inch longer than the length and width of the prepared metal strip.

    • 6

Apply a bead of hot glue along the top, bottom and sides of the fabric.

    • 7

Place the metal strip on the fabric with the hollow side facing down. Wrap the fabric around the metal, gluing it in place on the hollow underside of the bracelet.

Tips & Warnings

  • Silk or light cotton fabric works best because it allows the bracelet to snap easily.

  • Glue jewels onto the bracelet to add some pizazz.
