How to Convert a Paint.NET File

Paint.NET is a free image editor used to create and edit graphics on the computer. When you save graphics in Paint.NET, they are saved as PNG files by default. PNGs are Web friendly and support transparent backgrounds. You may need to convert PNGs into another format, however, if you're saving a photograph with a lot of colors or to eliminate transparency. Paint.NET lets you convert files into other image formats directly within the application, so you don't need a separate image editor.

  • Open the file you want to convert in Paint.NET.

  • Click "File" and "Save As" from the menu.

  • Click the "Save as type" option in the Save As dialog box.

  • Click the file format you want the image converted to. Click "Save."
