How to Insert a Watermark With Fireworks

Add a watermark to your images in order to protect them online.

The Internet has made images easy to find, share and reuse. Unfortunately, images are sometimes used without permission in Web pages, emails and social networking sites. Adding a watermark to your image makes it difficult to reuse or sell. When the graphic is downloaded or displayed, the watermark displays with it. The size and location of your watermark makes a difference. A small watermark in the corner of your image, for example, can be easily cropped from the image. A faint watermark in the middle of the image does the job without interfering with the image. You can use Fireworks to import a watermark into existing graphics.

Instructions

    • 1

Start Fireworks. Open the image where the watermark will be used.

    • 2

Select "File" and "Import" from the menu. Double-click the watermark image in the "Import" dialog box. Click "Import" in the "Import Page" dialog box.

    • 3

Place your mouse over the image where you want it to go. It is added to its own layer.

    • 4

Drag the watermark where you want it to appear. To resize the watermark, click on it and select the "Scale" tool from the "Tools" palette. Grab the handles surrounding the image and drag it inward or outward to adjust its size.

    • 5

Go to the "Layers" palette. Select the layer containing the watermark.

    • 6

Click the "Opacity" button at the top of the "Layers" palette. Set the opacity level to a low number, such as "15."
