How to Break a Page in a Word Document

When writing, there are several times when you need to start a section on a new page. You might want to start each chapter of your book at the top of a fresh page, add a references section or create a blank page for figures. Whatever the reason, you can do so by entering a page break in the Microsoft Word document, which creates a hard return and places your focus at the top of the next page.

Instructions

    • 1

Click wherever you want the page break to appear in your document. This places your cursor at that location.

    • 2

      Click the "Insert" tab.

    • 3

Click "Page Break" in the "Pages" group to insert a page break. Alternatively, you can hold the "Ctrl" key and press "Enter."
