How to Check Whether My Cashier's Check Has Been Cashed

Unlike a personal check, the funds from a cashier's check are not deleted from your bank account after the check is cashed. Instead, the bank guarantees the funds to the recipient. A cashier's check requires the buyer to furnish funds to the bank for the check amount and processing fee, after which the bank acts as the guarantor of the check. This makes checking the status of the cashier's check through normal means impossible.

Instructions

    • 1

Call or go to the issuing bank. Only the issuing bank will have record of the transaction.

    • 2

Request the status of the cashier's check. The bank may require that you pay a fee before they'll research this information.

    • 3

Submit the batch number printed on the receipt portion of the cashier's check to the representative. The representative will look up the number and tell you whether or not the check has been cashed. If you don't have the receipt portion of the check, give the representative the amount and date of the cashier's check and she will look for a cashier's check order in your bank account. If you didn't order a cashier's check directly from your bank account, the representative may not be able to find it.
