Erasing a whiteboard.

The whiteboard is a great tool for presenting information, keeping lists and brainstorming. The components of a whiteboard consist of a smooth white plasticized display board, markers and an eraser. The markers can either be of dry-erase or wet-erase type. Dry-erase markers can easily be wiped clean with a whiteboard eraser or a dry cloth. Wet-erase markers must be wiped off with either a wet cloth or a damp eraser made for wet-erase marks. Both types can be used on the same surface to make erasing temporary markings easy while preserving long-term items.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Erasing Dry-Erase Marks:

    • 1

Hold a dry-erase type eraser in your hand so that the label faces your palm.

    • 2

Press the eraser firmly but gently against the whiteboard on the markings to be erased.

    • 3

Sweep the board in a back and forth motion, keeping the erasing surface pressed to the board. Repeat the process as necessary to remove all unwanted dry-erase type markings.

    Erasing Wet-Erase Marks:

    • 4

Dampen the spongy part of a wet-erase type eraser with clean water.

    • 5

Wipe the surface of the wet-erase markings until they are removed.

    • 6

Wipe the surface dry with a clean, dry cloth.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sometimes boards gather marks that are more difficult to remove. Use special whiteboard cleaning solution and a clean rag to restore your board to like-new condition.
