How to Check DPS on World of Warcraft

Damage per second, or DPS, is an important stat for damage-dealing characters in "World of Warcraft" (WoW). DPS is often used as a benchmark by guilds and groups. If you don't output enough DPS, you likely won't be invited to a raid or high-level instance. WoW does not include a native tool that tracks your DPS, but an add-on, Recount, does. After you install the add-on, you can immediately begin tracking your DPS.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the Recount add-on from a WoW add-on site. Extract the Recount files into the WoW "Add-on" folder.

    • 2

Start WoW and log in to the game

    • 3

Press "Enter" and type "/recount toggle" (without quotation marks) if you do not see the small recount window appear. Move the window to a location that doesn't interfere with your action bars or combat.

    • 4

Fight an enemy. From the beginning of the fight until the end of the fight, your damage per second will appear in a state of constant flux in the Recount window. At the end of the fight, your overall DPS for that fight will appear. You can reset the DPS meter at any time by clicking the red "X" and selecting "Yes." The DPS meter does not reset automatically after each fight.
