How to Test Your RAM on a Mac

Random Access Memory, or RAM, is the memory that the computer operates from. RAM is considered "volatile" and requires the computer to be powered on for it to work -- as soon as you power off your computer, all contents of the memory are erased. You can test the RAM on an Apple Macintosh computer by booting into the Apple Hardware Test program provided with the Mac.
