How to Detach the Taskbar

By default, the Microsoft Windows taskbar is locked in position at the bottom of the screen. You can detach it from this location and move it around the screen. This can give you more viewable space, or simply be more appealing to you. You can accomplish this from the desktop.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click the taskbar. Click "Lock the taskbar" in the drop-down menu. A check mark next to "Lock the taskbar" means it is currently locked; no check mark means it isn't.

    • 2

Click an empty space on the taskbar, and while holding the mouse button down, drag the mouse to one of the other edges of the monitor. This will move the taskbar to that section of the monitor.

    • 3

Right-click the taskbar. Click "Lock the taskbar" to attach it to its new location.
