How to Relight the Pilot on a Kenmore Gas Stove

Kenmore gas stoves are sold with a wide variety of features, including high-powered burners, sealed cooktop surface, cast iron grates, push knob controls and a variety of possible cooking temperatures. However, no matter how sophisticated the stove may be, if the pilot light goes out on the stove, none of the features will work. Relighting the pilot light on a Kenmore stove is fairly easy to do, but note that the process should only be performed by an adult.

Instructions

1. Hold a lit match to the desired burner head. If all four burners are out, start with one burner and proceed to the others once the first one is lit.

2. Push and slowly turn the corresponding burner control knob clockwise to "LITE" while holding the match to the burner.

3. Turn the control knob slowly to the desired temperature once the pilot light is lit. If proceeding to the other burners, wait a second to verify the pilot light is working and then turn the knob counter-clockwise to "Off."

4. Repeat with the other burners as necessary.

• Stop immediately if a gas odor is detected. Disconnect power to the range and leave the home. Contact your gas company or fire station for assistance.
