How to Disable an Embedded Firewall in Windows XP

Windows XP is the first Windows operating system to come with an embedded software firewall that helps to protect your computer against online intruders. If you don't want this firewall enabled, though, you can go into System Properties and disable it. However, unless you have another firewall installed, this can leave your machine vulnerable to attacks.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click on the "Start" button.

    • 2

      Click "Run."

    • 3

Type "Firewall.cpl" in the Run window that appears.

    • 4

      Click "OK."

    • 5

Click on the General tab, then click the "Off (not recommended)" option.

    • 6

Click the "OK" button to disable the embedded XP firewall.
