How to Permanently Block Caller ID

There are two ways to block caller ID on most phone systems. Block caller ID on a per-call basis by dialing a short code before the call, or block caller ID on all calls. Unlike per-call blocking, permanently blocking your caller ID number requires a change to your account. Most carriers require you to contact their customer support and add the feature. Some carriers charge extra for permanent blocking.

Instructions

    • 1

Call your phone carrier. Contact cellular carriers by dialing "*611" from the phone. Find the number for land-line carriers on your bill or on the carrier's website.

    • 2

Select the option to speak to a customer service representative.

    • 3

Confirm your account identification with the customer service agent. He may ask for an account password or the last four digits of your Social Security number.

    • 4

Advise the representative you would like to block your outgoing caller ID. The representative will add the necessary feature to your account.
