How to Remove My Address From a Google Group

Save

Removing your email address from a Google Group terminates your association with the group. You can remove your email address in three ways, but since some groups forbid outsiders from reading its content, consider choosing the "No Email" option within the Edit My Membership page if you have a Google account and still want to read the group's postings without receiving regular email updates on the group's activity.

  • End your subscription to the group by sending it an empty email. Insert the group's name along with "+unsubscribe" into the To email address field. Leave the contents of the email empty. The address in the email's To field should resemble "thegroupname+unsubscribe@googlegroups.com," for example.

  • Reply to a Google Group email with the words "REMOVE ME." Open an email from the group. Remove the existing subject line, use all caps and send the email reply to finalize the request to be dropped from the group.

  • Unsubscribe from the group's homepage. Navigate to the group's homepage by placing its name into your Web browser after the domain address, groups.google.com/group/. Go to groups.google.com/group/thegroupname, for instance. Then click the "Edit My Membership" link and click "Unsubscribe."

Tips & Warnings

  • Report the group for sending spam or abusive activity if necessary. Open the message in question and click "Report This Message." Specify the type of abuse you suffered and click "Report Abuse" to notify Google about the group's inappropriate activity.
