How to Remove a Fisher & Paykel Agitator

Save

Occasionally it is necessary to remove the agitator from a washer when making repairs. The transmission, tub assembly and some suspension parts are only accessible once you remove the agitator. Removing a Fisher & Paykel agitator is a little less complicated than most. The shaft that the agitator fits around is much shorter than most other brands. When removing the agitator, it is a good idea to keep your face away from the top of it to prevent accidentally hitting yourself when pulling the agitator out of the tub.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Unplug the Fisher & Paykel washer power cord from the wall outlet. Turn off the two water supply lines at the wall. Rotate the shut-off valves clockwise to turn off the water.

  • Lift the washer lid and make sure nothing is inside the tub. Turn the agitator by hand until you see the small notch between the agitator cap and top of the agitator. Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the notch and pry the agitator cap off the agitator.

  • Reach inside the agitator and turn the large plastic thumb screw counterclockwise and pull it out of the agitator.

  • Grasp the bottom of the agitator on opposite sides with your hands and lift the agitator off the transmission hub and out of the washer.

Tips & Warnings

  • When reinstalling the agitator, make sure the inside splines line up with the splines on the hub. The bottom of the agitator should be nearly flush with the bottom of the tub when installing.
