How to Make Fake Bread Dough
Fake food is often used in home staging and theater productions to portray food that is not meant to be consumed. It is also convenient to use in restaurant and store displays. Fake bread is made from a salt dough that is baked till it dries and becomes hard and crusty. The high salt content prevents mold and fungus formation. Fake bread is baked and painted with several coats of varnish to prevent discoloration and spoilage. Fake bread dough can be shaped to make bread loaves, bread sticks, buns and more. Combine flour and salt on a clean work surface. Mix with dry hands to distribute the salt evenly within the flour.

Make a dam in the middle of the flour. Gradually add water and start kneading the dough.

Knead the dough, making sure the consistency is stiff and pliable. Shape the dough into a loaf or round buns. Make sure to bake the dough within 20 minutes so the dough does not dry out.

Bake at 300 F for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.

Tips & Warnings
Add food coloring to the dough to vary the color.
Keep fake bread away from children since it is not edible.
