Instructions

  1. Making Crystal Flip Flops

    • 1

Buy all the supplies needed to make your crystal flip flops. The amount of crystals you need depends on whether you want the crystals to go all the way down the strap or just halfway. Buy a few more than you think you will need, you can always save them for your next pair or another project.

    • 2

Take your flip flops and place some crumbled up newspaper underneath the straps, which will hold the straps up while you work on them. Rub the sandpaper or a rough scrub sponge on top off the straps. Roughing up the straps will make the crystals adhere to the straps better. Apply rubbing alcohol to the straps with a paper towel. This helps remove any oils or dirt. Let the straps dry.

    • 3

Decide what kind of design you want to make with the crystals. Use different color crystals to make flowers down the straps or you make rows of crystals covering the straps.

    • 4

Start in the middle with the toe strap and work your way down each strap, one side at a time. Squirt a small amount of glue on to the straps. Focus on a 1-inch area. Don't squirt glue along the whole strap, because the glue will harden before you have time to place all of the crystals on the strap.

    • 5

Use tweezers to pick up a crystal and place it on the strap. Again, start in the middle with the toe strap. Place one crystal on the bottom of the strap. Place another on top of it. Finally, place the third on top of it, until you have a row of three crystals. Repeat the process until you want to stop. If you'd like, end the row by shaping it into a arrow, instead of a three-crystal line. Apply only two crystals and then apply only one crystal, which will create a cute arrow design.

Allow the flip flops to dry for at least 24 hours. Keep the flip flops out of sunlight.

Tips & Warnings

  • Buy a big crystal pendant to put on the middle toe part of the flip flop.

  • If you need to, move the crystals around on the strap before the glue dries.

  • Don't be nervous about handling the crystals. Have fun.

  • Remember you will get better with practice.
