How to Make Baptism Gifts

When you are attending the baptism of a child or a baby in your life, it is traditional to choose a gift that will help mark the occasion. Baptismal gifts should be special gifts that are meaningful to the child and his parents. One way to make the gift even more special is to personalize it or make it yourself. Instructions

  1. Wooden Cross Sign

    • 1

Purchase an unfinished wooden cross from a local home store or a craft store.

    • 2

Paint a coat of primer onto the wooden cross so that when you decorate it the cross does not soak up all of the paint. Allow the primer coat to completely dry.

    • 3

Apply a coat of paint to the wooden cross once the primer has dried. Choose a simple white paint, or select a color that coordinates with the child's room. Allow the paint to completely dry. Add another coat if the paint on the cross does not look completely even or does not cover completely.

    • 4

Use a stencil to paint the child's name or initials onto the cross. You can also do this freehand if you are comfortable doing so. Use the stencil to add the date of the baptism to the cross as well.

    Baptism Gift Basket

    • 5

Choose a basket to use as the base of your baptismal gift basket. Add shredded paper to the base of the basket so that the items will be visible when you are finished with the basket.

    • 6

Place baby items that have an appropriate theme inside the basket. For example, add a stuffed toy angel and lamb to the basket. Choose books with a religious theme, whether picture books or coloring books and crayons. Select onesies that have a religious theme, such as onesies with characters from the Bible embroidered onto them. You could also choose other baby items, such as teething rings, pacifiers and rattles.

    • 7

Place a large piece of cellophane onto a table and put the basket on top of it. Gather up the sides of the cellophane into a bundle above the gift basket.

    • 8

Tie the ribbon around the gathered cellophane to complete the gift basket.
