How to Turn a Webcam on From MSN Live

Sometimes referred to as "MSN Live" or simply "MSN Messenger," Windows Live Messenger is a computer software program that facilitates real-time chat communications between you and your Windows Live contacts. In addition to chat -- and the pictures, videos and links you sometimes send within chat messages -- Windows Live Messenger allows you to make free webcam calls to other users. Turn on your webcam in Windows Live Messenger by starting a video call with someone.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Windows Live Messenger and log in using your email address and password. You won't be able to turn on your webcam using the program -- or employ any of its functions -- unless you're signed in.

    • 2

Double-click the name of a user with whom you wish to video chat. Click the "Video" button, located among the menu options at the top of the chat window, to start a video call, which enables your webcam if it's currently turned off.

    • 3

Begin a video chat, including with multiple users, using the Windows Live Messenger menu. Click the "Show Menu" button located under and to the right of your username and select "Video" from the "Actions" sub-menu. Click "Start a Video Call," select a user or users from the list, then click OK to begin your video call -- and, in turn, turn on your webcam.
