How to Create Your Own Stuffed Teddy Bears
Creating a stuffed teddy bear can be done in a small number of steps, but requires careful attention and patience while sewing and tracing a pattern. However, creating your own stuffed teddy bear or stuffed animal allows you to select your own pattern and fabric.
Things You'll Need
- Teddy bear pattern
- Needle
- Thread
- Sewing machine (optional)
- Cotton stuffing
- Permanent marker
- Small buttons (optional; for eyes)

1
Select a teddy bear pattern and using a marker, trace the pattern onto two pieces of fabric. If you decide not to use a pattern, free-hand trace the teddy bear outline onto the fabric, leaving an extra 1/4 inch for sewing.
-
2
Cut out your outline.

3
Using a sewing machine or needle and thread, place the pieces of fabric inside out and sew around the edges. Leave an inch unsewed for inserting the cotton stuffing.
-
4
Turn the animal inside-out to hide the stitching.
-
5
Stuff the teddy bear through the unsewed patch to a desired level of fullness.
-
6
Using small, precise stitching, sew together the remainder of the pattern.
-
7
Add embellishments as desired, using a marker (or thread and buttons) to create a mouth, nose and eyes.
