How to Melt Chocolate With Honey
Be inspired by sweet honey as a replacement for sugar to melt with chocolate. Chocolate needs a low, even temperature for smooth melting without burning. To get a melted chocolate and honey combination, the heat of warmed honey is used to soften and melt the chocolate. Things You'll Need
- Sauce pan
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup honey
- Whisk
- 6 oz. chopped chocolate
- Heat-proof bowl

Boil the water and honey over medium heat in a sauce pan, whisking to combine.

Remove the pan from the heat.

Place the chopped chocolate into the heatproof bowl.
Slowly drizzle the warmed honey over the chocolate while whisking the chocolate to distribute the heat.

Let the chocolate sit for two minutes and whisk one final time until it is smooth.

Tips & Warnings
Honey comes in a variety of flavors based on the type of flower the bees used to gather nectar. Choose your favorite honey to complement melted chocolate or experiment with pairings. A general rule is the darker the honey, the bolder its flavor. Pair these dark honeys with dark chocolate to keep both flavors balanced. Opt for lighter colored honeys for milk or white chocolate.
Add 1 tbsp. of this melted honey and chocolate mixture to a mug and whisk in 1 cup of hot water until frothy to make a Mayan hot chocolate.Sprinkle a dash of cayenne pepper on top if desired for a more authentic drink.
Avoid getting water into the chocolate before it melts completely or it will seize. If seizing occurs, pour 1 to 2 tbsp. of vegetable oil into the chocolate and whisk over low heat until the chocolate becomes smooth again.
