Obtaining a flat stomach requires a commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle.

If television and magazine ads are any indication, a solution to belly fat is in high demand. People want to know how to trade in spare-tires for washboard abs and trim waists. If you are on this quest, there is good and not so good news; yes, you can get rid of your tummy fat but you will have to work for it. The trick to removing fat from around your tummy involves a combination of diet, weight loss and exercise.

Instructions

    • 1

Incorporate whole-grain foods into your diet. Eat foods such as oatmeal, brown rice, whole-wheat pastas and breads. Avoid refined grains which increase insulin and cause the body to store fat. Make sure at least half of your grain intake consists of whole-grains.

    • 2

Eat foods that are filling and naturally low in calories. Eat high fiber foods which provide a feeling of fullness quicker and longer. Incorporate more fruits, vegetables and legumes into your diet to obtain lots of fiber with fewer calories.

    • 3

Control the number of calories you consume to ensure you are burning more than you intake. Use smaller plates and bowls to decrease the tendency of preparing larger portions.

    • 4

Eat your food slowly to allow your brain the time to register fullness. Stop eating when you are full, even if food remains on your plate.

    • 5

Incorporate at least 30 minutes of moderate activity into your day. Perform activities such as brisk walking, biking and hiking. Incorporate strength training workouts into your exercise regimen to build muscle, help your body burn calories and increase your metabolism.

    • 6

Drink at least eight glasses of water a day to help flush toxins from your body.
