Step-by-Step Wireless Setup

Wireless networks for homes and small businesses are increasing in popularity due to these locations having multiple computers. A household or small business typically uses a single high-speed Internet connection. A wireless router is used to share the single Internet connection with the multiple computers on the premises. You can connect your computer to the existing wireless network to take advantage of the single high-speed Internet connection.

      Boot the computer.

      Click the wireless icon in the lower-right corner by the clock. When not connected to a wireless network, the wireless icon shows an empty set of bars with an orange star in the middle.

      Click the wireless network with the strongest signal to highlight it.

      Click "Connect."

      Enter the network password or WEP key, if prompted.

    • 6

      Click on the type of network location, when prompted. Choices include Home, Work and Public.

      Click the red "X" to close the window stating that the wireless network is connected. The computer is now connected wirelessly to the Internet connection.
