You can hide the printer icon on your taskbar in a few steps.

Installing a printer on your home or office computer can be an invaluable way to create documents and photos. Once your printer is installed, most printers will create an icon on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen when using Windows operating systems. If you do not use your printer often, it can be annoying to always see this icon at the bottom of your screen. Using the taskbar settings, you can hide this icon at all times or when the printer is not in use.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your computer and wait for the operating system to start up before attempting to change any settings. Once the system is loaded, right-click on an open area. Do not click on the printer taskbar icon or any other icon. Click on the "Properties" menu option located at the bottom of the pop-up menu.

    • 2

Wait for the "Taskbar and Start Menu" options menu to appear. Click on the "Taskbar" tab at the top of the screen. Click on the "Customize" button that will appear at the bottom portion of the screen to enter the "Notifications" menu where you will be able to hide or show specific items.

    • 3

Scroll down the list of notifications to find the printer manager program. This will be listed by the manufacturer's name of the printer that you have installed. When you find your printer, click on the drop down menu next to it. Here you will see several options to show or hide this icon from your taskbar.

Click on the "Always Hide" option if you want to permanently hide your printer icon from the taskbar. Using this option, you will never see the icon, even when the printer is in use. Click on the "Hide When Inactive" option to hide the icon when the printer is not being used. While the printer is in use, the icon will appear on the taskbar.

Click "OK" at the bottom of the screen. You will be returned to the main taskbar menu. Click on the "Apply" button at the bottom of the screen followed by the "OK" button to save your changes.
