1
Start the makeover at the ceiling. Touch up any stains from leaks or rain, and give the ceiling a coat of flat white paint. Add a new ceiling light fixture after the room is finished. Find one that will use the same basic footprint as the old one so that you don't have to make any repairs to the ceiling.

2
Paint three walls a light color. Make the wall with the vanity a focal point by painting it another color or deeper shade of the color on the other three walls. Use pale yellow on three walls, for example, and a golden yellow on the feature wall. Refresh the paint on the vanity and add new pulls and handles.

Install a new vinyl floor. Take up the old floor and carefully examine the subflooring for any repairs that need to be made. Choose flooring that picks up the wall color or colors.

4
Add a new mirror or mirrored medicine cabinet over the sink. Buy an elegant bar-style light fixture that will fit above the mirror or cabinet. This will set you back only $60 or so.

5
Replace your old towel bars with upscale towel bars to enhance the overall look. Install a shelf to display brightly colored folded towels. Add a vase of artificial greenery to shelf to complete the look.
