How to Calculate a Biology AP Score

Calculating your advanced placement (AP) Biology score can make the difference between getting a head start towards medical school and retaking classes that you took in high school. The AP Biology exam is scored on a five to one scale, five being the best achievable score. With a three, you can enter Intermediate Biology and with a four or five, you are placed in Advanced Biology. If you find yourself dumbfounded by your AP report card or practice tests, knowing how to calculate your score can help you figure out which Biology courses you must take in college.

Instructions

1. Calculate the number of questions you answered incorrectly. Multiply this number by ¼. For example, if you answered five questions incorrectly, ¼ times five equals 1.25.

2. Calculate the number of questions you answered correctly, and then subtract this number by the number calculated in Step 1. For example, if you missed five questions, you answered 95 questions correctly; subtract 95 from 1.25 to receive a 93.75 or 94.

3. Figure out your score from the ranged guideline. Score between 100 and 90 to receive a 5, score between 89 and 80 to receive a 4, score between 79 and 70 to receive a 3, score between 69 and 60 to receive a 2 and anything below 59 is a 1. Anything below a 3 is a failing grade.
