How to Make My Facebook Profile Visible to Non-Friends

Your Facebook profile provides a basic way for people to recognize and get in touch with you. It contains your name, location, education, work history and photo -- information that friends and colleagues can use to differentiate between you and anyone who shares your name. If people can't find you, they can't connect with you. To get the most out of networking on Facebook, make your profile visible to everyone instead of just your friends.

  • Log in to Facebook.

  • Click the "Account" link in the top right corner of the Facebook screen. Choose "Privacy Settings."

  • Click "Everyone" in the left panel beneath Sharing on Facebook. This automatically makes your bio, birthday, relationships, status, posts and photos visible to nonfriends.

  • Click "View Settings" in the Connecting on Facebook section, which is directly above Sharing on Facebook.

  • Click the drop-down boxes in each section and set them to "Everyone." Click "Back to Privacy" when you're done.

  • Click the blue "Apply These Settings" button on the Privacy Settings page to commit the changes to your account.

Tips & Warnings

  • To test your new profile privacy settings, visit the Privacy Settings page. Click "View Settings." On the next screen, click "Preview My Profile." This allows you to see what your profile looks like to someone who isn't your Facebook friend.
  • Be wary of sharing too much information with strangers or distant acquaintances. This makes you vulnerable to physical danger and increases the potential for identity theft.
