How to Fix a Ripped Skirt Seam
If your favorite skirt has popped a seam, don't spend the day with clothing held together with safety pins. Even if you've never sewn on a button before, repairing a simple seam in your clothing is a task that you can accomplish. Fixing a ripped seam is a matter of putting back stitching that was there before, so all you have to do is repeat what the manufacturer did for you when it made your skirt. Fix an emergency seam rip and you'll be back to work or play in just a few minutes.

1
Take off your skirt and turn it inside out. Find the seam that has ripped open and place it in front of you.
-
2
Hold the seam together exactly the way it was when it was still sewn together. Pin the two halves of the seam together so that the sewing line on both halves is right on top of each other.

3
Thread a needle with 18 inches of sewing thread in a color that matches your skirt. Double the thread and tie the ends together in a knot.
-
4
Sew the seam together with a running stitch, using very small stitches. Push the needle down through both layers of fabric, then push it right back up through the two layers, 1/8 inch farther along the seam. Keep taking small stitches all along the seam line until you have closed up the entire seam opening.

5
Tie off the thread at the end of your seam by taking three small stitches, one right on top of the other. Pull your needle and thread through the last stitch to lock the thread down in place. Clip or break the thread off and turn the skirt right side out.

Tips & Warnings
If your emergency sewing kit doesn't include a pair of scissors, nail clippers do the job of cutting thread.
